What is net metering?
Net metering measures the difference between the electricity you buy from your utility and the electricity you produce with your solar energy system. Under net metering, any excess electricity produced by your solar energy system is delivered back into the utility grid, effectively spinning your meter backwards.

No. Solar electric systems are available only to property owners. The installation of a solar electric system involves the property owner entering a contractual agreement that includes a potential property lien (called a mechanic’s lien).
What are my solar financing options?
There are three solar financing options: you can purchase your system in cash, take out a solar loan to buy your system, or sign a solar lease/power purchase agreement (PPA).
How do I decide how big my system should be?
Your installer will estimate how many panels can fit on your roof given its footprint and shade susceptibility to determine the ideal size of your system. While sizing your solar array, installers will consider how much the solar electrical output will offset your electricity needs.
What happens when the power goes out?
Most solar arrays are grid-tied, meaning they are connected to the local power grid. As a result, when the grid is down and your solar panels stop producing electricity, your home will not have power (even if the sun is shining).
